In a taper thread plug gauge for pipes, there are two notches on the R thread taper thread plug gauge.

The taper thread plug gauge for R threads has two notches, but the only one used for pass/fail judgment is the one on the small end of the thread. The one on the large end is a step for determining the dimensions and is not used for judgment.
The taper thread plug gauge for PT threads has only one notch because the dimensions are determined by the large end face.
